2005
Trip Well after a few years break from
our round Australia
travels we are back in the saddle and off again. This time we are undertaking a similar
route to our 2000 trip. This trip
will have us departing once again on May 1 and heading north through Ouyen,
Burra and Roxby Downs to Coober Pedy.
From there up the Stuart
Highway to Alice Springs
then on to Katherine. We then head
due west through Kununurra, to Broome.
This year
we have booked a cruise on the Kimberley Quest II
travelling through the Buccaneer Archipelago and the Bonaparte Archipelago. We
will spend 7 days exploring many of the Kimberley
region’s islands and inland waterways. On return to Broome we head north
up the Dampier Peninsula
to revisit to Middle Lagoon and Cape
Leveque.
On return
to Broome we begin our journey south through to Perth along the coast with a
short detour into the Pilbara region to visit Karijini National Park then back
to the coast and on to Exmouth.
From there we continue our southward journey to Perth,
around to Albany via the coast, across the
Nullabor and then back home to Melbourne.
Again we will be travelling in our caravan with the back of
the Toyota Prado set up for all our camping gear. At different times during the trip, we
will store the caravan and take off to experience camping life. Our biggest camping trip will be the Gibb River Road
with shorter camping trips to Ayers Rock, Kings
Canyon, the Macdonnell
Ranges, El Questro, the Bungle Bungle
and the Dampier Peninsula
We estimate
the total trip distance to be around 24,000 km and take 5 months.

1999
Trip This
trip covered the Eastern half of Australia, a distance of 24,000 km
over 5 1/2 months. We travelled up the East Coast to Cairns
where we left our caravan and proceeded with friends to the tip of Cape York. We returned to Cairns
two weeks later to pick up our caravan then proceeded across to the Gulf of
Carpentaria, down to Mt Isa, across to Tennant Creek and up to Darwin. Whilst in this
region we visited Kakadu and Litchfield
National Parks and other
tourist attractions in the area. We then travelled south to Alice
Springs and on to the Flinders
Ranges before returning
home.
2000
Trip We departed on Monday May 1 for this adventure to take
in the Western half of Australia. Our trip took us from
Ballarat to Echuca, along the Kidman
Way taking in Griffith, Cobar and Bourke. Into Queensland along the Matilda Highway
passing through Cunnamulla, Charleville, Longreach, Winton to
Mt Isa. Across into the Northern Territory
via Cape Crawford and up to Katherine. After some
R&R in Katherine we headed for Kununurra which was our base for about two
weeks. From this base we ventured into the eastern half of The Kimberley as
well as take into the Purnululu
National Park (Bungle
Bungles). We then head over to Derby
which we used as a base for covering the western half of The Kimberly. On to
Broome for a couple of weeks and up to Cape
Leveque before starting to head south
towards Perth.
From Perth down to Albany,
Esperance, back up to Kalgoorlie
then across the Nullabor to Port Lincoln. From Port Lincoln across to Broken
Hill, Mildura and then home. 5 1/2 months on the road and 25,000km. A great adventure
Any Suggestions
Places to
visit, things to see, plus any other suggestions are welcome. We would love
peoples input on what there is to see on this route. We are obviously aware of the
main tourist areas but if anyone knows of unique, out of the way places we
would love to hear from you.
